Coach Stigers saddened and upset
Long-time follower of the Nittany Lions, Roger Stigers called after 10am
with the news of Coach Paterno passing. Stigers said he was very sad
to see this man leave under the state of turmoil. He was disturbed by
the way he treated in being fired (terminated according to Trustees) on
November 4th. He feels that the days since November 4th were so
stressful and upsetting to the Paterno family, but mainly the coach that
it brought him down sooner. "It is very hard to believe on one man's
actions (Sandusky) can cause so much pain and suffering to not only the
children impacted, but Penn State University, the community, fans and
the related families."
Remembrances from January 24 and 25, and 26, 2012
The Lion In Autumn is No More
The lion in autumn will roar no more
His life taken by a deadly disease and
a broken heart because he should have done more.
JoePa will be remembered forevermore.
Happy Valley will not be the same anymore.
The lion will not run out with his players on fall
Saturdays before the game anymore, but he is
not to blame.
JoePa will be remembered forevermore.
His players, family, university , community and football
were his life. “Success with Honor” was what he preached
only to be fired because of a communication breach.
JoePa will be remembered forevermore.
His success, devotion, integrity and love of the game made him
an icon among his peers. He fought for honor, yet departed
wounded by an assistant’s immoral smear.
JoePa will be remembered forevermore.
His legacy will last forever and he will rest in peace as a champion
of education, honor and respect for the game, players and university
he loved best and when the last fan leaves the game and empty seats
remain, win or lose, he will be remembered forevermore.

memorial was family designed. No trustee, no University official spoke in the name of Penn State.
the Dean who spoke, spoke on behalf of the Paterno donation and the scholarship."

"We wish the Paterno family our sympathy."
"State College is a lot sadder today!"

"Being Joe Paterno's age, I can only appreciate his comments in Washington Post interview. Ironically it was his last,
but I am glad he did it. When he talked about not knowing what to do, that was his generation. In the
service when something happened you were to a superior and that was where the buck stopped. Also
the supposed actions of Sandusky were something that was never spoken of. Besides it was Jerry, Mr. Second
Mile--he could do no harm to children! Now we know. Sandusky's action were the devil's work. If he is
found innocent, then the three years of the grand jury would be considered a joke! It has (he has) ruined
the lives of far too many people and at least two institutions Penn State and Second Mile. He also helped bring down Joe Paterno!"
"Saw the Vince Lombardi documentary on HBO. Paterno and Lombardi were consummate coaches. Their lives were
left on the field with Xs and Os. They had a tough time dealing with non-football matters. Sad!"
